SDCC Announces 7th Round of GuestsIn addition to its previously announced 30 names, Comic-Con welcomes Mark Evanier, Marcos Martin, Frank Miller, Scott Sigler, and Maggie Thompson as Special Guests for 2025. Click here for details. Mark Evanier attended his first San Diego Comic-Con in 1970 and has been to every one of these annual events ever since. He was then an assistant to the great Jack Kirby, whom he wrote about in his book Kirby, King of Comics. Mark has also written for live-action TV shows, animated TV shows (including various Garfield cartoons) and tons of comic books. The comics include working with Sergio Aragonés for 40 years on Groo the Wanderer, and many more. He is also a historian of comic books and animation. Marcos Martín is a Catalan comic book artist whose work at Marvel and DC includes such titles as Batgirl: Year One, Breach, Absolute Batman, Dr.Strange: The Oath, Amazing Spider-Man, and Daredevil. In 2013 he founded the online platform Panel Syndicate together with writer Brian K. Vaughan and illustrator/colorist Muntsa Vicente in order to distribute their creator-owned comic, The Private Eye, which went on to win an Eisner Award for Best Digital/Webcomic and the Harvey Award for Best Online Comics Work. Friday, his latest series with acclaimed comics writer Ed Brubaker (collected into three books published by Image Comics) has earned them two more Eisner Awards. Frank Miller is regarded as one of the most influential creators in the entertainment field today. He began his career in comics in the late 1970s, first gaining notoriety as the artist and later writer of Daredevil for Marvel Comics. Next came the science fiction samurai drama Ronin, followed by the groundbreaking Batman: The Dark KnightReturns and Batman: Year One with artist David Mazzuchelli. Following these seminal works, Miller fulfilled a lifelong dream by doing an all-out crime series, Sin City, which spawned two blockbuster films that he co-directed with Robert Rodriguez. Miller’s multi-award-winning graphic novel 300 was also adapted into a successful film by Zack Snyder. In 2015 Miller was inducted into the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame for his lifetime of contributions to the industry. New York Times bestselling author Scott Sigler is the creator of 20 novels, 7 novellas, and dozens of short stories. Scott began his career by narrating his unabridged audiobooks and serializing them in weekly installments. He continues to release free episodes every Sunday. Launched in March of 2005, “Scott Sigler Slices” is the world’s longest-running fiction podcast. His fans fervently anticipate their weekly story fix, so much so that they dubbed themselves “Sigler Junkies” and have downloaded over 55 million episodes. An inaugural inductee into the Podcasting Hall of Fame, Scott is a co-founder of Empty Set Entertainment, which publishes his Galactic Football League series. A Michigan native, he lives in San Diego with his wife and their wee little Døgs of Døøm. When she was 4 years old, Maggie Thompson began collecting comic books, and her parents encouraged her. When she was 18, she and Don Thompson co-edited the pioneering fanzine Comic Art and went on to co-edit and publish a monthly Newfangles comics newsletter. In 1976, the first year they attended Comic-Con, she and Don received Inkpot Awards for Achievement in Fandom Service. Eventually, they became co-editors of Comics Buyer’s Guide and attended Comic-Con every year, as they wrote both for comics and about comics. Following Don’s death in 1994, Maggie continued to collect, write, research, and edit a variety of comics-oriented projects. She edited Comics Buyer’s Guide for three decades and sums up her identity these days as being a “celebrity-adjacent award-winning pop-culture nerd.” She indexes Fantagraphics’ Pogo reprints, puts digest comics into Little Free Library boxes, and encourages everyone to spread the delights of comics old and new to readers young and old. • View comments • Track comments •

Brian K. Vaughan Returns to Baltimore Comic ConAttend the Baltimore Comic-Con this fall on October 17-19, 2025 at the Inner Harbor’s Baltimore Convention Center. The Baltimore Comic-Con is thrilled to announce the return of comics guest Brian K. Vaughan to this year’s event. Special Fan Package tickets are available for meeting and interacting with Brian, in addition to his public signings at the show both days. Tickets to the show can now be purchased online. Brian K. Vaughan (or BKV for short) is the Eisner and Hugo Award-winning writer/co-creator of multiple critically acclaimed series including Saga, Paper Girls, and Y: The Last Man, as well as the upcoming Image Comics graphic novel Spectators with artist Niko Henrichon, who he last collaborated with on Pride of Baghdad. He has previously written Runaways, Pride of Baghdad, The Hood, The Escapists, and The Private Eye. Vaughan’s professional comics writing career began at Marvel Comics on Tales from the Age of Apocalypse. He later went on to write for some of Marvel’s highest-profile characters, including Spider-Man, Captain America, and the X-Men, as well as penning noteworthy limited series such as Doctor Strange: The Oath and The Hood. He went on to write for DC Comics, where he wrote Batman and Green Lantern: Circle of Fire, and Dark Horse Comics, writing for Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight. Vaughan began writing series featuring his own characters. Y: The Last Man is a 60-issue post-apocalyptic science fiction series about the only man to survive the apparent simultaneous death of every male mammal on Earth. Published through DC’s Vertigo imprint, the series received Eisner Awards in 2005 and 2008, and numerous other nominations. Adaptation to screen has been a long time coming, and after a series of false starts, Y: The Last Man saw the transition from page to screen in 2020 at FX. Vaughan executive produced and developed the series. Vaughan’s Ex Machina ran from 2004-2010 and is a political thriller featuring Mitchell Hundred. Hundred, an ex-superhero known as the Great Machine, performed great acts of heroism during the 9/11 attacks in 2001, and is elected Mayor of New York City as a result. Set during Hundred’s term in office and interwoven with flashbacks to his past as the Great Machine, the series explores both the political situations Hundred finds himself in and the mysteries surrounding his superpowers. New Line Cinema purchased the film rights to the series in July 2005, and commissioned Vaughan to write one of the two commissioned scripts, which he was reported to be working on in 2007. The epic space opera/fantasy series Saga debuted in 2012 through Image Comics. Working with artist Fiona Staples, the series depicts two aliens from warring races trying to survive with their newborn daughter. The first issue sold out of its first printing ahead of its March 14 release date, with a second printing ordered for April 11, the same release date for issue #2. The series has been extremely well-reviewed by comics press, book press, and general media, and it has also appeared on the New York Times Graphic Books Best Seller List. It won three Eisner Awards in 2013, a Hugo Award, and was nominated for seven Harvey Awards, including wins in 2013-2016 for Best Continuing or Limited Series, in addition to multiple individual nominations for both Vaughan and Staples. Vaughan’s Paper Girls is a mystery/science fiction series, with illustrator (and 2021 Baltimore Comic-Con guest) Cliff Chiang, from Image Comics. Paper Girls follows the story of four 12-year-old newspaper delivery girls in Stony Stream, a fictional suburb of Cleveland, OH who, while out delivering papers on the morning after Halloween, find themselves in the midst of an invasion from a mysterious force from the future. The girls become unwillingly caught up in the conflict between two warring factions of time-travelers. Paper Girls won two Eisner Awards in 2016 for Best New Series and Best Penciller/Inker. In 2017, the first compilation was shortlisted for the Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story and received a Best Series nomination for the inaugural Ringo Awards. In addition to his comic writing, Vaughan was a writer, executive story editor, and producer for seasons 3 through 5 of the ABC television series Lost. He was also a co-producer on Lost: Missing Pieces, a spinoff Internet short-film series produced during the hiatus between the show’s third and fourth seasons. In 2011, Vaughn was chosen by Steven Spielberg to adapt the Stephen King novel Under the Dome as a television series, where he served as showrunner and executive producer of the series for the first season. Vaughan lives with his family in Los Angeles, where he occasionally dabbles in film and television, though he’s always happiest making comics. “We’re so excited to bring Brian back!” said Marc Nathan, show promoter for the Baltimore Comic-Con. “It’s been a few years since we’ve seen him, and he has continued to wow fans with his amazing work. He has one of the most must-read libraries of work out there, and his fanbase continues to grow as new fans continue to find his books. Fans won’t want to miss this amazing opportunity to meet him!” Visit baltimorecomiccon.com/tickets for more information and to purchase your advanced tickets! In the coming days, look for more announcements from the Baltimore Comic-Con. We are looking forward to highlighting our guests, the Ringo Awards, industry exclusives, and programming.
