Hotel Makaaba in Bacalar: an Eco Retreat in a Magic Lake Town

The once-sleepy area of Lake Bacalar is not so unknown to travelers anymore and the Europeans that once came to Playa del Carmen and Tulum before they got so built-up seem to be gravitating here. If the hyped Maya Train project actually goes everywhere that’s been announced, that’ll bring more tourists down here to the bottom of Quintana Roo state in Mexico. Relax at Cherry Creek Hotel Hyatt Place Denver

It’s a bonus when your hotel is near shopping, fabulous restaurants and offers parks nearby for pets, as well as people. This Hyatt Place is technically not located in Denver, but the Glendale suburb meets my criteria for friendly front desk folks and well-maintained hotel rooms.

Red Feather Lodge Near Grand Canyon National Park

On the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, there are a handful of places to stay inside the national park itself, but prices can be high and you may need to book months in advance to score a room. To find more reasonable rates and flexibility, however, it makes sense to stay 10 minutes away in Tusayan, Arizona. That’s what I did when I finally fulfilled my bucket list dream of seeing the Grand Canyon, with a comfortable stay at Red Feather Lodge.
