I enjoyed a double-header of DC theater this weekend and the two shows I saw could not have been more different. At Olney Theatre Center, I attended the season premiere of Dance Nation, a contemporary look at tween dance competitors and the internal baggage they carry. At Shakespeare Theatre Company, I took in The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci, a sumptuous creation by the incredible Mary Zimmerman, who turns the words of Leonardo da Vinci into a feast for the senses. The shows are alike in that both are utterly unconventional... but that's where the similarities end. As I reflect on my weekend at the theater, I think how lucky we are to live in DC where art of this caliber — and this variety — is available on a daily basis. What did you see this weekend?
