Breeze Airways launches new credit card, but you don’t even get a free carry-on

March 27, 2024 by Stephen Pepper

Breeze Airways started service almost three years ago and has now partnered with Barclays to launch a new credit card.

For people living near airports served by Breeze, this card could be worth picking up for the first year, but longer term it’s unlikely to be a keeper unless you fly with Breeze a lot and will be paying more for their bundles due the card’s annual fee and the fact that it doesn’t offer a free checked – or even carry-on – bag. The way that the card is being advertised is a little misleading too, so be sure you understand its earning rates before applying.

Breeze Easy Visa Credit Card

The Offer

Card Offer and Details
50K points after $2K spend in 90 days
$89 Annual Fee
Information about this card has been collected independently by Frequent Miler. The issuer did not provide the details, nor is it responsible for their accuracy.
FM Mini Review: Points are worth $0.01 each toward paid travel. This card might be worth it for the bonus if you know you'll make good use of BreezePoints. Long term, it only makes sense if you frequently fly Breeze Airways -- and even then, there are other cards that might be as good or better for airfare purchases depending on how you value transferable points vs airline-specific penny points.
Earning rate: 5X on Breeze Airways Nicer and Nicest Bundles & Trip Add-ons ✦ 2X on Breeze Airlines Nice Bundles ✦ 2X grocery ✦ 2X restaurants ✦ 1X everywhere else (including Breeze flights)
Base: 1%
Dine: 2%
Grocery: 2%
Card Info: Visa issued by Barclays. This card has no foreign currency conversion fees.
Big spend bonus: One-way bundle upgrade with every $15K in purchases
Noteworthy perks: 7,500 BreezePoints after every account anniversary with $10K in cardmember year purchases ✦ Priority Boarding ✦ Complimentary Inflight WiFi

Quick Thoughts

At the time of its launch, Breeze is offering 50,000 bonus BreezePoints after spending $2,000 in 90 days. BreezePoints are worth 1cpp (cent per point) which makes the value of the bonus easy to calculate – $500. However, having a fixed value for their points means that you can’t get outsized value on award flights with Breeze – what you see is what you get.

The card comes with an $89 annual fee which isn’t waived in the first year, so you’re effectively getting $411 as the welcome offer which can only be spent on Breeze Airways flights. That bonus isn’t anywhere near as valuable as the welcome offers available on many other airline credit cards, but if Breeze is who you fly with regularly nowadays, this could still be a useful card to pick up, especially thanks to their interesting route network.

We used to live in Portsmouth, VA and so our closest airport was Norfolk. Most flights out of ORF only go to larger hub cities like Washington D.C., New York, Chicago, etc. Breeze meanwhile operates flights from Norfolk to cities like Charleston SC, New Orleans LA, San Diego CA, Portland ME and more. If we ended up settling back in the Hampton Roads area after our road trip’s over, I imagine we’ll end up flying with Breeze sometimes seeing as they’ll have direct flights where we want to go.

That $89 annual fee means this card probably won’t be worth keeping longer term though. The bonus categories aren’t very exciting; other than when paying for bundles on Breeze flights, you earn 2x on groceries and restaurants and 1x everywhere else. You can get that or better on a regular 2%/2x card, so unless you’re spending a lot on their bundles, you’ll be hard pressed earning enough BreezePoints to offset the annual fee versus other card options.

The bundles is where the Breeze Airways credit card becomes misleading. On the card’s landing page it says you can earn the following:

  • Earn up to 10X BreezePoints on Nicer Bundles, Nicest Bundles and Trip Add-Ons, that’s 5X when you buy, plus 5X when you fly
  • Earn up to 4X BreezePoints on Nice Bundles, that’s 2X when you buy, plus 2X when you fly
  • Earn up to 2X on No Flex Fares, that’s 1X when you buy, plus 1X when you fly

At first glance, that makes it seem like paying for flights and bundles with the Breeze credit card will earn you 10x, 4x or 2x depending on which flights and bundles you buy. That’s not the case though – Barclays is listing the earnings you’ll get when combined with what you’ll earn separately via Breeze’s loyalty program. You’ll earn 5x, 2x or 1x respectively via the loyalty program which means the credit card only offers 5x, 2x or 1x respectively too. While 5x is a better return than is offered by most cobranded airline credit cards for spending on their own flights, it’s certainly not as good as the 10x rate that your eye will initially be drawn to. That 5x is also only earned with certain bundles and trip add-ons; for a regular Breeze flight, you’ll only earn 1x which is worse than most cobranded credit cards for other airlines.

The card does have a couple of big spend bonuses, although the emphasis there is on the big spend and less on the bonuses. When spending $10,000 on the card in a cardmember year you earn 7,500 BreezePoints (i.e. $75 that can only be spent with Breeze.) That’s a 0.75% additional return which means it won’t be worth making any great effort to achieve, but is nice to have if you’re putting that much spend on the card anyway.

For every $15,000 in purchases in a calendar year, you also get a one-way bundle upgrade. Breeze offers Nice, Nicer and Nicest bundles, but the terms and conditions of the card don’t state which bundle you’ll earn and so I suspect it’s the lower Nice bundle you’ll get. It’s also not clear how much those normally cost; a flat price isn’t listed on their website, so I suspect the price varies depending on the cost of the flight itself seeing as their bundles include bonus points.

Unlike most airline credit cards that come with an annual fee, the Breeze Easy Visa card doesn’t offer a free checked bag. Unless you pay more for one of their bundles when booking a flight, you don’t even get a free carry-on bag. Paying an $89 annual fee for an airline’s credit card and not even getting a free carry-on is a big miss in my book.

Despite that, cardmembers do get a couple of benefits when traveling with Breeze. If the aircraft is equipped with WiFi, you’ll get complimentary in-flight WiFi. Cardmembers and your companions also get Group 1 priority boarding.

Overall, I’m mildly impressed with the card’s welcome offer as 50,000 BreezePoints is more than I would’ve expected from the airline, but other than that the card isn’t particularly appealing given its $89 annual fee and lack of a free checked – or even carry-on – bag as a cardholder.

Quick Thoughts

Wyndham makes it easy to earn status with them courtesy of their status match. To be honest, their status doesn’t really count for much when staying at their own properties, but Wyndham Diamond status can come in handy thanks to their partnership with Caesars Rewards which gets you corresponding Diamond status.

A drawback with Diamond status obtained via a status match is that it’s not eligible for matching to Caesars Diamond status – only Wyndham Diamond status earned organically or via their Business credit card counts. You have to earn 40 elite night credits with Wyndham to earn Diamond status, so the 10 bonus elite night credits from this promotion can get you 25% of the way there.

Unfortunately, this appears to be a targeted promotion. Miles Earn and Burn shared the landing page yesterday and said that it likely works for everyone. However, I tried registering my wife’s account and got the following error message: “We’re sorry, this offer code isn’t valid. Please check the code and try again, or visit the Offers page to see our current promotions.” The terms of the offer also state that it’s targeted, so it does seem like that’s being enforced.

That said, if 10 elite night credits would be helpful for you, it’s worth trying to register in case you are indeed targeted but hadn’t realized and/or hadn’t received an email about the opportunity.

US Bank: Double cash back on cash back offers March 27-30, 2024

March 27, 2024 by Nick Reyes

Update 3/27/24: This double cashback promotion is live today. In addition to the offers in the screenshot below, there are also offers for Staples (10% back on up to $170 spend, so $34 cashback when doubled), 10% back at Hilton on up to $650 spend (so $130 cashback when doubled) and more.

~

Over the past year, US Bank began offering card-linked deals similar to Bank of America and Wells Fargo cards. Some of the offers are card-linked and others are more like a shopping portal. From March 27-30, US Bank will be offering double cash back on these deals when you activate & use them during that window. That could make for some very good deals.

The Deal

  • US Bank is offering Double Cash Back on all offers you activate and redeem from March 27-30 in your credit / debit card login.

Key Terms

  • To qualify for double cash back, you must first activate the offer and then redeem the offer during the March 27th-March 30th period and use your US Bank debit or credit card.
  • The additional cash back will be credited 6 to 8 weeks after March 30th

Quick Thoughts

In order to receive double cash back, you’ll need to redeem qualifying offers between March 27-30. Unfortunately, the way the sentence is written, it’s a little murky as to whether you also need to activate deals during that time window. My initial read of the terms here was that you need to both activate and redeem the offer between March 27-30, 2024 in order to qualify for double cash back, but a second read sounds more to me like you need to first activate a deal (perhaps at any time?) and then redeem it during the window (which makes more sense to me). YMMV.

Note that the additional cash back will be credited 6 to 8 weeks after March 30th, so don’t be surprised if you don’t see the additional rewards until the end of May.

That makes this a bit of a gamble in the sense that it’ll be a long time before you know how it works out and it will probably be a bit of a pain to track it if you use multiple offers. Still, this could be a solid deal for many of the offers.  For instance, I have numerous hotel chain offers for 10% back. Getting 20% back might make it worth stopping by to pick up a gift card.

I also have some deals that are a set cash back amount. I have no idea whether Orkin Pest Control is any good or what their services cost, but I see an offer for $50 back on $50 or more, which I assume would become $100 back on $50 or more with the doubling here.

New offers get added all the time and I have several offers set to expire before this double cash back deal goes live, so I’ll be keeping my eye out for useful new offers to pop up.

The nice thing is that most of these are purely card-linked offers, which means that they should stack with rewards earned from a shopping portal. That could make for some nice stacks.

FoundersCard offering Caesars Rewards Diamond status again

March 27, 2024 by Stephen Pepper

FoundersCard used to offer Diamond status with Caesars Rewards, but that opportunity ended 6 weeks ago in what appeared to be a premature Ides of March situation.

Thankfully it seems to have only been a temporary disruption to normally scheduled service because reader Jay has shared that Diamond status is back among the list of benefits of FoundersCard.

FoundersCard Caesars Rewards partnership

The Deal

Key Terms

  • Complimentary status valid through January 31, 2025.
  • Upgrade takes up to five weeks for processing, and cannot be expedited.

Quick Thoughts

Diamond status with Caesars can be a very useful benefit to have thanks to it offering waived resort fees, complimentary parking and more. It’s also a great on-ramp to the status match opportunities with other casino programs that can get you all kinds of free cruises.

Something important to note is that the small print with FoundersCard states that it can take up to five weeks for your status upgrade request to be processed and that it can’t be expedited. I’m not sure if that lengthy timeline is something that should be expected or if they’re just trying to manage expectations and that in reality it’ll get processed more quickly. However, if you’re planning a trip to Vegas in the next five weeks, I’d manage my expectations accordingly and wouldn’t count on Diamond status showing up in time.

(Extended + Stack) Webull: Earn at least $210 in stock when referring a partner and they deposit $500

March 26, 2024 by Tim Steinke

Update 3/26/24: This promotion was due to end on March 19, but it’s been extended through April 16.

This promotion can get even more interesting if you’re able to refer three people. That’s because there’s a separate promotion offering either $500 or $1,000 in Apple stock when referring three people by April 16 and they each deposit at least $500. That separate Apple promotion stacks with this one which means it could be very lucrative if you’re able to meet that three referral threshold.

That’s because as the referrer, you’d earn at least $150 in stocks for each person you refer from this promo, as well as $500 or $1,000 from the Apple promo. That’s a total of $950 or $1,450 depending on if you’re awarded the $500 or $1,000 from the Apple offer. That doesn’t even take into account the value of the stocks the person you refer earns which can make it even better if they’re part of your household.

~

The stock trading app Webull has been offering a series of rewarding referral promotions in recent months and the latest one can net a household at least $210 if you refer your partner (or vice versa) and they deposit at least $500 into their account.

You’ll also earn 5% interest on the cash you deposit for as long as you hold it in Webull. There’s no requirement that you invest the money once you deposit it, nor that you hold it in Webull for any length of time (although 5% interest with no minimum balance is fairly competitive).

The Deal

  • Refer someone to Webull and you’ll each earn the following:
    • When the person being referred deposits less than $500
      • Referee earns 3 Fractional Reward Shares worth at least $9
      • Referrer earns nothing
    • When the person being referred deposits $500-$24,999
      • Referee earns 20 Fractional Reward Shares worth at least $60
      • Referrer earns 50 Fractional Reward Shares worth at least $150
    • When the person being referred deposits $25,000+
      • Referee earns 75 Fractional Reward Shares worth at least $225
      • Referrer earns 100 Fractional Reward Shares worth at least $300

How to Refer to this Offer

  • If you already have a Webull account, you can find the new referral promotion in the Promotion Center section of the Menu tab at the bottom right:

  • You’ll need to generate a referral link specific to this promotion. To do that, tap the card that says ‘Get 50 or 100 free fractional shares for every friend you invite’.
  • You should then see a link that says ‘Copy your referral link’ – that’s the one you’ll need to give the person that’s being referred.
  • Once you and the person you refer have earned your fractional shares, you’ll then need to claim them. Webull no longer seems to send an email when they’re ready to be claimed, so it’s worth setting a reminder to check the app if you’re likely to forget.

If you don’t have a Webull account, you must first sign-up, make any deposit, and then you’ll be able to refer (our referral links are below if you’d like to use them)

Tim’s referral link

Stephen’s referral link

Nick’s Referral Link

Greg’s Referral Link

Direct Link to Sign-Up without using a referral link

Key Terms

  • Expires March 19 April 16, 2024.
  • A successful referral is a new Webull user who
    • Is at least 18 years of age
    • Resides in the United States
    • Opens a Webull account using the eligible customer’s unique referral link during the offer period
    • Has a valid social security number
    • Has never previously applied or opened for a Webull brokerage account with that social security number
    • Makes a deposit of any amount

Quick Thoughts

The best option here is clearly to have the person being referred deposit at least $500. That’s because, if they deposit less than that, they’ll only earn 3 shares worth at least $3 each, while the referrer will earn nothing.

However, if they deposit at least $500, the person being referred earns 20 shares worth at least $3 each, while the referrer earns at least 50 shares worth that same amount.

That means that if you refer your partner or they refer you, you’ll earn a total of at least $210 between you. That’s an excellent 54% return on your money for a $500 deposit considering you don’t even have to invest that $500 in shares; you can just leave it sitting in a cash management account if you like (Webull offers 5% interest).

In my experience, there’s usually 1 or 2 more highly-valued stocks in each bundle of ten and the average total value ends up being between $40-50/ten stocks. The most expensive single stock that I’ve ever received was around $40. So, it’s worth noting that the $210 figure is the minimum that you’ll receive, in all likelihood it will be at least slightly more.
